September 29, 2009 Dear Friend: You might not be a friend of mine but I’m certain you have claimed a friendship over the years with Jack and Charlotte Ballard. The Ballard’s friendship is so important even though Jack went home early.
The bottom line of this letter is to ask for a donation for the Entry Pavilion that has been recently built on the campus of Cincinnati Christian University in their honor. If Jack were living this letter would not be needed. Jack had that magical touch that could raise thousands of dollars with a phone call or a letter. Perhaps love or admiration is a better word than magical.
Most receiving this letter know that the school in Cincinnati is the Alma mater of the Ballard’s. They both graduated with honors and Jack served as a Trustee for years. He was Chairman of their largest building program and Jack is the only individual receiving an Honorary Doctorate in 6 decades. Jack was not perfect but he was willing to boldly follow uncharted paths and successfully add to the chorus of the redeemed. The Ballards lived a satisfying lifestyle but his heart permitted him to become Chairman of the Christian Church Foundation for the Handicapped. Only heaven will reveal the mega outreach for the Lord as he founded and lead the church builders who erected houses of worship in 20 states and overseas. He had more weddings and funerals than anyone I know.
I feel certain that Jack Ballard has touched you in someway as I listed his influences in the above paragraph. Last but not least, his 44-year ministry at Mt.Carmel resulted in one of the strongest congregations in the South. I close by suggesting that most if not all receiving this letter appreciate the Ballards. Someone has said, “Appreciation is only as good as the effort I make to express it.” Your expression is deeply appreciated regardless of the amount.
Sincerely, Wayne B. Smith (A retired minister (80) living in Lexington, KY and a dear friend of Jack and Charlotte.)
